The Short Version

• You can use Recap without creating an account — recaps work either way.
• If you create an account, we store the email address and display name you sign up with.
• If you use saved shows, recap history, or notifications, we store those so they work — and so they follow you across your devices.
• We don't sell your information, and we don't show third-party ads that track you.
• You can delete your account at any time — that removes the account and the data tied to it.

What We Collect

1. Feedback you choose to send

If you use the feedback form, we receive your message (required), a category (Idea, Bug, or Other), your name (optional), and your email (optional) — only if you choose to enter them. If you leave the name and email blank, your feedback is effectively anonymous. We use this information only to read, understand, and act on your feedback. To reduce spam and abuse, the feedback system temporarily notes the network address a submission comes from to limit how many messages can be sent in a short time. This is used only for rate-limiting and is not used to build a profile of you.

2. Basic, privacy-respecting analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand general traffic — things like how many people visit and which pages are popular. This tool is designed to respect privacy: it does not use cookies to follow you, and it does not track you across other websites. You can read about how it works in Cloudflare's documentation.

3. Show and episode data you search for

When you search for a show or request a recap, that request is sent to our servers so we can generate your recap. We may keep cached recap and show data to make the app faster and reduce repeated work, but this caching is about shows and episodes — not about you. If you're signed in, recap requests are also recorded to your recap history so you can pick up where you left off.

4. Account information (if you create an account)

Creating an account is optional — Recap works without one. If you do sign up, we store the email address and display name you provide, handled by our authentication provider, Supabase. Your genre preferences and an 18+ confirmation flag are stored with your account profile. We use this information to sign you in and personalize what you see — nothing else.

5. Saved shows, recap history, and preferences (if you use them)

If you're signed in, we store your recap history (which shows and episodes you generated recaps for), your saved shows, and your notification preferences. This is what makes those features work, and it's tied to your account so they stay in sync across your devices.

6. Device and notification data (if you enable notifications)

If you turn on notifications, we store a push token for your device (the address notifications get delivered to) and your device's timezone. The timezone is used for exactly one thing: making sure we don't send you pushes in the middle of the night, your time. It is not your location — we do not collect location, precise or approximate. We also keep a brief log of recently sent notifications so we never send you too many.

What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your contacts, photos, or device files.
• We do not collect your location — precise or approximate. (Your device's timezone, used only to time notifications politely, is not location data.)
• We do not collect payment information.
• We do not knowingly collect information from children. Recap is intended for adults (18+).

Third-Party Services We Rely On

Recap uses a few outside services to function. When you use the app, some data necessarily passes through them:

• Supabase — handles authentication; stores your email address, display name, and account preferences.
• TMDB (The Movie Database) — provides episode and show data and images. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
• Google (Gemini) — used on our servers to generate the recap text from official episode summaries.
• AniList — provides the character portraits shown in recaps.
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications to Android devices.
• Expo — delivers push notifications to iOS devices.
• Resend — sends account emails (confirmation, password reset).
• Cloudflare — provides our DNS and domain, security, and the privacy-respecting page analytics described above.
• Render — hosts our backend servers and database.
• Google Play — distributes the Android app. Google may collect its own data as part of the Play Store; see Google's own privacy policy.
• Apple App Store — distributes the iOS app. Apple may collect its own data as part of the App Store; see Apple's own privacy policy.

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.

How Long We Keep It

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (Profile → Danger Zone), we delete the account and the data tied to it — your recap history, saved shows, device push tokens, and notification preferences. Feedback isn't linked to accounts, so it's kept for as long as it's useful for improving Recap; if you'd like feedback you sent (including any name or email you included) deleted, contact us and we'll remove it.

Your Choices

• You can use Recap without an account — no personal information required.
• You can leave the name and email fields blank when sending feedback.
• You can choose which notifications you get — New episodes, Catch-up reminders, and Trending each have their own switch in Settings — or turn notifications off entirely in your device settings.
• You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Danger Zone. This removes your account and the data tied to it: recap history, saved shows, device push tokens, and notification preferences. See Delete Your Account for every option.
• You can ask us to delete feedback you've sent.

Data Deletion

You can delete your Recap account and the data tied to it at any time — in the app or on this website via Profile → Danger Zone, or by email if you can no longer log in. Full instructions, including what exactly gets removed, are at recapstory.com/delete-account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Recap grows and adds features. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
